The Southwest Association of Student Assistance Programs invites submissions for high-quality concurrent sessions for the SWASAP Annual Conference, November 3-6, 2019.
About the Conference
Through an intentional cross-pollination of ideas and expertise from practitioners, researchers, faculty, policy-makers, and administrators, the SWASAP annual conference offers a comprehensive examination of the pressing issues and obstacles related to access and opportunity in higher education.
The conference provides tangible and practical strategies to improve at-risk student programs and services. We equip professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to actively advocate for low-income, first-generation, and disabled students, challenge the status quo, and reach beyond specific roles to develop holistic student experiences.
Programs should plan to be 45-50 minutes in length.
Embrace your influence and re-imagine the ultimate college experience for your yourself and your students!
Suggested Session Themes
While our session themes are flexible, ideally, they will encompass presentations that blur traditional boundaries between functional areas and across 2-year, 4-year, and multiple TRIO programs. Although you'll have the opportunity to designate a broad target audience when submitting your proposal, we challenge you to consider how your insights might be applied to a more experienced group of TRIO professionals.
· Cross-cultural communication
· Conflict Resolution
· Diversity and Inclusion in professional communications
· TRIO Trends and Issues
· Partnerships and Collaboration: Communicating the value of your program to your immediate community & D.C.
· Special Challenges and Opportunities
· Self-advocacy/ Self-care: Insisting on healthy working conditions
Creatively incorporating the conference theme of Going the Distance: Start 2 Finish is HIGHLY encouraged.
