    UB/UBMS Regulations and Program Development Workshop

    This workshop will focus on the regulations and elements of an Upward Bound and Upward Bound Math/Science project, including the following topics:

    • Discussing the purpose of Upward Bound Programs
    • Defining Upward Bound participant eligibility requirements
    • Reviewing selected definitions, including defining low-income and first-generation status
    • Discussing mandatory and permissible services for both UB and UBMS
    • Discussing required UB and UBMS components
    • Demonstrating and address eligible students’ need for project services in target schools
    • Establishing meaningful, achievable objectives related to student need and project resources/activities
    • Refining a plan of age and grade-appropriate project activities based on participant need and contributing toward objective achievement
    • Discussing addition of successful online/virtual services and activities
    • Capitalizing on project, grantee, and community resources
    • Developing an efficient project team
    • Developing an evaluation plan that uses quantitative and qualitative data in formative and summative evaluation
    • Developing a project logic model

    Time will be allotted for collaborating and Q and A.

    ABOUT THE PRESENTER:

    Ms. Jones is former Coordinator of TRIO Programs at the University of Arkansas Rich Mountain in Mena, Arkansas, and the 2005-06 Chair for the Council for Opportunity in Education Board of Directors. She has been working in TRIO programs for thirty years and she holds a B.S. and M.S. in Education from Henderson State University and has certifications in English and Adult Education, with post-graduate work in Postsecondary Administration. Lucy has also served as President-Elect, President, and Past President of SWASAP and AASAP, regional and state TRIO associations. In addition, she has conducted workshops on legislative and regulatory topics and TRIO proposal writing seminars at national, regional, and state conferences. Lucy has served as a faculty member for UNLV, UCO, and COE training grants.

    McNair Best Practices, Innovative Programming and Emerging Trends

    This workshop will enhance your current identification and need for eligible scholars on your campus (as outlined in your proposal) and review programming that includes innovative and emerging trends for the future. Your critical assessment of your project now is in line with identifying, assessing, monitoring, and providing required and permissible activities for your scholars. Best practices will be outlined along with outlining the necessary components for continued success within your McNair project.

    Have up to 3 sections of your draft proposal critiqued by individuals who have experience in writing successful TRIO Grants.  You will receive instructions on how to submit your proposal after registering.  Then you will schedule an appointment with the TRIO professional for your draft review.  This could be in person or virtual.  This will not be able to be paid for by Grant funds.
