EOC Grant Writing Workshop

This grant writing workshop will assist participants in developing a competitive grant proposal for the Department of Education Office of Postsecondary Education's upcoming Educational Opportunity Center competition. Each section of the proposal will be presented with participants working interactively. The presenter, Ms. Lucy Jones, will share helpful hints from past competitions and her experience writing/reading successful applications.

The entire program is conducted via Zoom.

TRAINING TOPICS TO BE INCLUDED, BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Learning how are the grants scored and selected
  • Developing the Need section
  • Devising Objectives based on need
  • Crafting the Plan of Operation so that it ties back to Need and Objectives
  • Enlisting community, school and institutional partners for a strong Commitment section
  • Making a cohesive plan for hiring, training and retaining Personnel
  • Developing a effective Evaluation Plan

ABOUT THE PRESENTER:

Ms. Jones is former Coordinator of TRIO Programs at the University of Arkansas Rich Mountain in Mena, Arkansas, and the 2005-06 Chair for the Council for Opportunity in Education Board of Directors. She has been working in TRIO programs for thirty years and she holds a B.S. and M.S. in Education from Henderson State University and has certifications in English and Adult Education, with post-graduate work in Postsecondary Administration. Lucy has also served as President-Elect, President, and Past President of SWASAP and AASAP, regional and state TRIO associations. In addition, she has conducted workshops on legislative and regulatory topics and TRIO proposal writing seminars at national, regional, and state conferences. Lucy has served as a faculty member for UNLV, UCO, and COE training grants.
