    UNM- Taos Sr. Student Program Advisor

    TRiO Student Support Services (SSS) at the University of New Mexico-Taos is seeking a highly motivated Sr. Student Program Advisor to work in a dynamic student centered environment supporting program participants (first generation, high financial need, and/or students with documented disabilities) to reach their academic goals.  The Sr. Student Program Advisor must be proficient in planning and implementing student success initiatives and able to fulfill the jobs and duties of this position to accomplish The UNM Taos TRiO-SSS Mission and grant objectives. TRiO-SSS is federally funded by the Department of Education.

    2019 SWASAP Emerging Leaders Institute Application

     

     

     

    Are you interested in joining the SWASAP Emerging Leaders Institute (ELI) Class of 2019? 

    This opportunity is for people who want to get more involved, but may not be sure where to start or for people who want to finally understand the ins-and-outs of how SWASAP works. Everyone is invited to apply for this opportunity. You do not have to be a new SWASAP member or new to TRIO.  

    The 2019 ELI class is made up of representatives from each state and will meet during a three-day summit in Las Vegas, Nevada. There will be two additional online meetings and a final gathering at the 2019 SWASAP Conference in Austin, TX. 

    ELI participants have an opportunity to better understand SWASAP's mission and history. Participants will explore their leadership styles and test their ability working in a team together in addition to networking with other TRIO staff from around the region. 

    Important Dates to Remember

    Application and supporting materials due to your state president: January 18, 2019

    State presidents turn in four candidates to ELI Committee: February 1, 2019

    Final Selections will be announced: February 15, 2019

    Three-Day ELI Summit: April, 2019 in Las Vegas, NV

    Two Online Meetings: May-October, 2019

    Final ELI Meeting: November 2019 (SWASAP Conference) Austin, TX

    2018 SWASAP Lucy Jones International Studies Scholarship

    Dear SWASAP,

    We are excited to announce the competition for the 2018 Lucy Jones International Studies Scholarship for College Students.  The deadline is November 9, 2018, so it is important to distribute this to your students as soon as possible

    Qualifications:

    • Cumulative GPA 2.0 and above
    • Academic Status: College Freshmen, Sophomore, Junior, Senior or Graduate Studies)
    • A current TRIO participant with a minimum of 1 year participation
    • TRIO Program Affiliation (EOC, McNair, SSS, VUB)
    • Accepted into an international study abroad program

    Students will need to create a login with email and password.  They can start the application anytime and complete it on their own time before the deadline.

    The student only need one recommendation from a current SWASAP member in good standing.  Student enter email address, and the recommender will be contacted with an online submission.

    The scholarship is 100% online, accessible and easy for your students use.

    There will be one (1) award of $500

    The Application is Easy to Submit: From the Student to the Recommenders

    • Students access the application at the following link, https://swasaptrio.awardspring.com/. There is a link for them to register with an email and create a password. They can start the application anytime and complete it on their own time.
    • Recommendations are handled through the software. Students enter email addresses, and the recommenders will be contacted with an online submission.

    This Will Be Our Fastest Award Notification Turnaround For Collegiate

    • We’ve work to make the process completely on-line, accessible, and easy for your students use.
    • Application deadline: October 1, 2018
    • Review Period: October 8-12, 2018
    • Notifications will go out: October 15- November 30, 2018

    Important Info on the Selection Process

    • The awards will be evaluated by a committee of volunteer members of SWASAP
    • No application submitted after October 1, 2018 will be considered
    • One recommender must be an active member of SWASAP
    • SWASAP membership will be verified before the review process, and applications that do not have an eligible recommender will not be reviewed
    • Notifications will be made no later than November 30, 2018, and we will work with the serving institution to promote the student’s award

    Dear College Students,

    We invite you to apply for one of six $750 scholarships awarded to eligible TRIO students in Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Texas, and Oklahoma. The deadline is October 1, 2018, and the application is easy to submit. Simply visit the following site , https://swasaptrio.awardspring.com/ and register with an email address. From there, you can start and stop the application on your own time.

    The application is simple and includes:

    • Some basic contact information
    • An uploaded resume
    • An essay answering the following question: “How has TRIO helped you become your best self to competitively pursue your educational goals?” Please include information regarding your history with TRIO and how you plan to utilize the information and experience you’ve gained through TRIO to further your future educational endeavors.:  Essays will be scored for both content and quality (grammar, mechanics, etc).
    • 2 Recommendations: 1 from a TRIO staff (Someone from Educational Opportunity Center, Ronald McNair, Student Support Services, Veterans Upward Bound) and one from another source. All you need to do is provide their email address, and we will take care of the recommendation request and submission.

    We will notify the winners no later than November 30, 2018

    Call for Proposals

    Deadline September 10, 2018

    The Southwest Association of Student Assistance Programs (SWASAP) welcomes you to submit a proposal to present at the 47th Annual SWASAP Conference to be held at the Little Rock Marriott in Little Rock, Arkansas from November 11– 14, 2018. Many of you have presented amazing workshops on your respective campuses or at your local state conferences and we are asking you to share your expertise with the SWASAP community.

    The programming committee invites submissions that address the developmental, educational, and pedagogical needs of under-resourced high school students and college students.

    Conference workshops will be held on Monday, November 12, 2018 from 2:30-3:45pm and on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 from 10:45am – 12:00pm, 1:45pm - 3:00pm, and 3:15 – 4:30 pm. Our conference theme is “Clearing the Path, A Legacy of Success through TRIO."

    Registration is now open for the 2018 SWASAP Student Leadership Conference. The SWASAP Student Leadership Conference will be held September 21- 23, 2018 at Sky Ranch in Van, TX.  This year’s theme is “Empowering a Legacy of Leaders”.  We will have a Pre-Collegiate track and a College track available. Paradigm Shift will be providing the programming for all workshops for all participants.

    Our targeted outcomes are:

    • Develop community among students.
    • Create opportunities for student leadership skills to grow.
    • Encourage students to take personal responsibility for their goals.
    • Identify and develop individual leadership strengths.
    • Provide opportunities for students to strengthen communication skills.
    • Diversity training and empathy.

    The registration fee for the conference is: $250.00 (SWASAP members and their programs) and $275.00 (non-members and programs) for students and staff who will attend.  The fees will cover the cost of food, lodging, and programming for the conference.  Click here to register online.     The SWASAP Student Leadership Conference is for all TRIO Students in grades 9 and above.  While we understand that TRIO often involves students in lower grades, the curriculum and events of the conference are tailored towards students from 9th grade to college level.
